Blogging and Social Web Experiences

As a way of introduction, tell us about your various web experiences, games, media personalities, favorite apps.  Here are some other ways to think about it - these are only suggestions.  Add your own.  This is only to get you to post entertaining blogs, not to grade you on what you say.  Feel free to add examples with links, images, and/or videos.
  1. When you're on the phone all day, what are doing?  It obviously doesn't have to be one thing, and it doesn't have to be all play (but it could be).

  2. Would you say you're "addicted" to certain apps? Which ones do you play all the time now.

  3. When you are on your laptop, what do spend most of your time doing?

  4. What about other technology use at home?

  5. Who do you subscribe to on YouTube, Vine, etc.?  Do any of the people you follow have over a million subscribers? Who are they? What do you like about them?

  6. Do you have your own website, own company, built your own app, want to do this full time (with investors of course)?

  1. When on the phone throughout the day, I tend to Google anything that comes to mind to gain quick answers, browse Facebook to keep up on my friends and families lives, hack TV's with my remote control app, text, snapchat, and read the continuous influx of emails I get in a day.

Unfortunately, I am usually pretty busy, so I do not really get to play games or go on many apps, but the ones I am "addicted" to are Snapchat and Facebook.

When I am on my laptop, I mostly am doing homework and looking up solutions to computer problems (I am an IT Consultant for the U of A). I also tend to plan for my summer camp I help run each year and answer or read emails.

However, I occasionally use other technology too. Television and Netflix are but a couple of my entertainment habits, but I also sometimes play games on PS4 with my boyfriend.

And, I do not have my own website or own a company really at the moment, but I do have a side hobby making desserts for money.

    1. Wait, Chaunteal, you help run a summer camp each year? How did I miss this? Where is the camp and how long have you been doing this -- did you go there as a kid and now you help run it? AND you make desserts for money? Very cool. I assume these things you enjoy doing, and making money is important, but maybe secondary to the joy it gives you.

  2. I tend to use my phone to text all day and I browse through many apps such as facebook, instagram, and snapchat. I also google everything I tend to not know or just simply browse through the internet. Whenever I don't bring my laptop to class, my phone is my second resource. I have my catmail sinked to my iphone so I am also constantly checking it for emails.

If I had to choose, I would have to say im "addicted" to snapchat and instagram. I check it maybe a few times a day when im bored. I would say I don't even think about it, its almost just a natural thing that I tend to do when using my phone.

On my laptop I tend to do homework and check my email. I rarely use facebook on my laptop and I only tend to do schoolwork. On occasion I also watch netflix on it. I don't use any other technology at home. I do not subscribe to youtube or vine. I rarely watch youtube unless its a friend sending me a link to a funny video. I do not own any company or design apps but it does seem very interesting! I currently have a part time job here at the U of A so I do not have much time at the moment.

  3. The main use of my phone is texting and calling my wife, but I also use it for Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Facebook and Instagram are mainly used to keep up with friends since I don't post very often on either apps, but I usually post pictures and videos on Snapchat under "my story". I also have a Bible app that posts a verse of the day on my phone that I read daily.

The only app I can really say I'm addicted to is Angry Birds Transformers. It's about the only game I play on my iPad (and it's pretty dang fun).

Most of the time I spend on my laptop consists of homework or school related activities. I'm always checking Blackboard and Catmail to make sure I don't fall behind in school. Other than school, my laptop is used to check out likecool.com or Youtube. On Youtube, I tend to watch whatever is most popular, and I love watching Late Night highlights with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, or Conan O'Brien.

My XBox 360 is my other form of technology used at home. I use this to watch Netflix and play video games. "Friends" just came on Netflix so I have been binge-watching that and am already at Season 5 since the beginning of January.

I do not have my own website or app, but I am working at Raytheon right now learning how to use an SAP system. My supervisor tells me the skills I learn from SAP will open up so many opportunities for me in the future. I am a double major in MIS and Accounting, and my focus for a career is in Accounting.

    1. David, you realize that you started this post with, "The main use of my phone is texting and calling my wife, but I also use it for Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat." But then it became clear that you did a little bit more than that. :)

  4. The #1 use of my phone is texting. After that, I use my phone for email all the time. As far as other apps go, I use Facebook and SnapChat quite a bit and recently my roommates got me into Clash of Clans (unfortunately). I wouldn't say I'm "addicted" to any apps, but I check Facebook more than I'd like to admit. I remember the days when I only went on once a day...

I only ever use my laptop for school and work now, but I use my desktop at home all the time. I use the desktop for mostly work and school (programming, completing assignments, lectures, and so on), but I just upgraded my graphics card so the temptation to play the newest games is high (once again, a friend got me into the newest Dragon Age).

I currently work in the Eller Undergraduate Department developing software. Last semester I published an Android app for them and the rumor for work this semester is to develop a web application. So, I don't not own any real software (aside from very little things I've made for personal use and an in-progress project for bioinformatics) but I definitely plan on developing my own proprietary software in the future once I have enough experience. My impression is that y'all don't dig programming THAT much, but if you're interested in trying to partner up on some development, I would be willing to give it a try.

    1. I had a student from last semester who got his app on Apple recently. He's going to talk to the class about the process, and to get you to check out his app.

On another note, what project are you doing for Bioinformatics?

      Delete
    2. Really? That's very cool! My dev partner developed the iOS equivalent to the app I made on Android, so I'm vaguely familiar with Apple's publication process.

The Bioinformatics project is essentially going to be a small app written in Python. The app would essentially streamline some processes and serve as a UI for the scientists over in the Life Sciences department at UA.

A full description could be complicated, so I'll just simplify it like this:

Python app (input a file and parameters) -> command console (execute BLAST* with file and parameters from Python app) -> Python app (parse BLAST output) -> R program** (feed parsed data from the Python app and return visual representation of that data)

*BLAST is a program that has already been developed. It basically compares metagenomes to a fully sequenced genome and checks for similarity.
**This R program has also already been developed and is open source. Its main purpose is to visually represent inputted data.

      Delete
    3. Love it!! Thanks for the details. I was actually able to follow it. It's not so much that programs like BLAST and R have already been developed, but that you figure out how to use them for YOUR program. Very cool! I see a Learning Lecture here. :)

  5. I actually wouldn't say I'm addicted to certain apps. I think I would be fine without them if it really came down to it. However, I do at times catch myself looking through apps on my phone when I really have no reason to. I suppose I do this just to pass the time or because I've developed bad habits. The apps that I use on a daily basis though would be my mail app, snapchat, Yahoo sports, and Facebook.

I spend way too much time on YouTube. I will sometimes go through an egregious amount of related videos when I know I should be doing more productive things. I also tend to online shop for things that I don't need, which is also a bad habit. I also sometimes scroll through the news on my laptop just to see what's going on in the world. And the other 50% of the time I am doing homework-related stuff on my laptop.

At home I have an iMac that I do work on. I also have a television that we all can watch Netflix on. The TV is hooked up to a Roku 3 so we can stream WatchESPN and Netflix because we don't have cable. I also have an Xbox 360 so whenever I have the free time I can squeeze in some video game time.

I subscribe to RomanAtWood, OwnagePranks, VitalyzdTv (the first three are all pranking Youtubers; I subscribe to them because they are hilarious), BadLipReading (every once in a while this guy will come out with a hilarious video parodying a movie by putting in his own bad lip readings by dubbing the video with his own sounds), and Alltime10s (I subscribe to them because they post some really cool facts).

    1. Thanks for the names of people you subscribe to, Cody; we'll be exploring these multi-million subscriber youtube stars later in the semester. I watch Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" (online only; used to be on Crackle, but you can now find it on the web). In a recent episode, he had Miranda Sings (a huge youtube presence) on it. It is crazy. She is her YouTube self throughout Jerry's "interview." Here is how it starts. You can certainly see the whole episode, plus her youtube personality, if you don't know it. http://youtu.be/lxGzTehTSPw I know how easy it is to get hooked on them. So funny. I spent too much time there and subscribed. I'm not a big youtube fan, though I subscribe to many. Now I have to check out yours. :(

  6. On my phone I tend to do a variety between texting or calling my family, friends, and my boyfriend. From time to time I like to go on Google Play to find fun games to keep me occupied. Occasionally I check my email because I have it synced on my phone and use other social media apps. I also use an app called TucsonStreetcar that provides an estimate of where it's at because I use it to get to Eller and other places from my apartment every morning.

I would say that I am "addicted" to Google in general. I search things on Google I don't know, go to Google Play to download games, use Google Maps so that I don't get lost, and even just enjoy looking at the daily illustrations of Google's Logo. I guess you could call me Google Girl.

On my laptop I would say I spend half of my time (on busier days I spend more time) looking at Blackboard and Catmail to stay on top of what's due, what I need to study for, etc. I don't always like using my laptop for this because I print out the course schedules of all of my classes so I can mark off what has been accomplished already. The other half of my time is between Youtube, Tumblr, Skype, and Facebook. On Youtube I listen to music or watch funny videos while on Tumblr is where I usually discover funny gifs of those videos or music videos. I go on Skype to chat with two close online friends (They are who they say they are!) who I have known for 3 and a half years now and on Facebook I chat with friends and my boyfriend. As for other technology back at home I watch TV occassionally and when I get a chance to I play on the Wii with my family.

On Youtube, I have not done any subscribing in a long time but looking back I subscribed to a lot of Asian youtubers and their vlogs such as nigahiga, Wong Fu Productions, or Korean music groups. Although I am not subscribed, I also like to watch live Korean music shows and dramas, and even look up Korean lessons to try to teach myself so that hopefully in the future I can speak fluent Korean. As a half Korean, it's nice to be able to relate to other fellow Asian youtubers and be able to learn more and be more involved about my ethnicity.

I do not have my own website, company however my boyfriend will be setting up a website for his photography business and seeing how hard he works gives me inspiration to be hope to be able to work at a company related to what I'm studying and something that makes me passionate about what I do. It is still a learning process for me so I hope to one day achieve that goal. Just recently last summer in Sierra Vista where my actual home is with my family, I had an internship with the Chamber of Commerce which was a really enjoyable experience, because I got to form professional relationships with them and do a little networking with small business owners at Chamber events.

  7. I use my phone throughout the day, mostly for texting and surfing through apps. I have several apps that I go through often, which include: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Vine (makes me laugh hysterically), Buzzfeed, Duolingo (trying to learn Spanish), and Candy Crush (level 325). The only reason I open up Twitter though is to check out Whats Up Tucson. It lets me know what's going on around town, whether there are any road closures due to accidents/construction, and if there are any cops hiding around town with a speed laser. If you don't follow them already I'd highly recommend that you do!

Out of all these apps I have to say that I don't feel like I'm addicted to any of them. Yes they're fun to look through but I could go without. As long as I'm able to stay in touch with family and text my wonderful boyfriend throughout the day I would be perfectly content. As for my laptop, I use it only for school and Amazon, but occasionally I will use Itunes to update my iPod. I love listening to Amazon's Prime stations while I'm doing my schoolwork, along with purchasing items every now and then. During school breaks I hardly ever use my laptop for anything other than Amazon (I spend most of my time watching tv or reading books from my Kindle).

Going back to Vine, I see that I follow only 14 people, but many of them have over a million followers. Some of them include David Lopez (4.3M followers), Piques (1.7M followers), Brent Rivera (6.2M followers), QPark (2.3M followers), and Robby Ayala (3.1M followers). If you want a good laugh, check these guys out! In fact, here’s a link to one of Piques’ most recent vines that I thought was pretty funny, it’s called “When Your Friend Actually Has Gas Money” (https://vine.co/v/OjuegZLEXVQ). As for having my own website/company, no I do not. Although, I do remember making a website a few years ago for a class that was supposed to be teaching us Excel… not sure what happened there. It was fun, but I don’t think I would be interested in doing something like this full-time on my own.

  8. I use my phone for calls, texts, emails, Google, and apps.

I would say that I am "addicted" to many social media apps such as snapchat, instagram, and buzzfeed. Like a lot of young people, I would also consider myself addicted to my cell phone in general.

I use my laptop for school work and personal use. For school, I use Google, Blackboard, CatMail, and other educational websites. I also use my laptop for note taking in some classes and staying on top of my schedule. In my free time, I use my laptop for social media like Facebook and YouTube. In addition, I do not own a TV, so I use my laptop for Netflix.

I use mostly my cell phone and laptop for technology. However, I do have a tablet that I occasionally use.

I do not subscribe to anyone on YouTube or Vine.

I do not have my own website, company, or app.

  9. Throughout the day, I use my phone for many things, such as the common texting and calling to family and friends, as well as going through the addictive social media apps including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. Constant email checking and Google browsing, news updates and playing random games adds to my phone activities on a daily basis.
There are a few apps I may or may not be addicted to like the well known Candy Crush and Trivia Crack apps that tend to make me more frustrated than anything. Another addiction that I should probably be worried about for the amount of time I spend on it is Pinterest which, at many times, is my Google.
I mainly use my computer for school work (completing assignments, going through lectures, reading eBooks instead of carrying around textbooks, etc.) and checking email. I have Apple TV so I'm able to watch ESPN, Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Podcasts, news, listen to music and much more while I'm busy using my computer or just laying around the house.
The videos I watch on YouTube or Vine are normally random videos my friends or family send me which, of course leads to watching similar random videos and consuming an unnecessary amount of time in a given day.

  10. The main reason I use my phone is to call and text my friends and family. I also use it to keep myself from being bored. I do this by either surfing the internet, reading articles, shopping online, or watching videos on Youtube. Another way I use my phone is to check emails. It notifies me when I receive an email, and it allows me to quickly respond.

I don't play games on my phone anymore (it took too much time out of my day), but I do use other apps. My favorite app right now is FlipBoard, where I can read, like, and share different articles online. It is basically like my own personal magazine, where I subscribe to topics that I am interested in. My favorite topics currently are: psychology, entrepreneurship, apps, and technology.

When I am on my laptop, I am usually doing work for my classes. I also use my laptop for Youtube. I prefer watching videos on my laptop over my phone, because of the bigger screen and better sound quality. I just recently started using Skype to talk to my brother, who lives in a different state now.

The other technology that I use at home is my TV. I have a Roku 3, which allows me to watch videos on Youtube, Hulu Plus, Netflix, and a lot more. I usually don't have time to watch TV, but I have it on when I'm doing other things (like eating or exercising).

A Youtuber that I subscribe to is called BigDawsTv, and he has 650,000 subscribers. He is a prankster who makes funny videos. A few of his pranks took place here on campus. I subscribed to him, because he captures real peoples' reactions and they are usually hilarious. Other than that, I am not subscribed to anyone else. I usually watch whatever is featured/recommended or new music videos.

I've owned a few websites in the past. They were mainly used for when I did affiliate marketing. At one point, my site was ranked #1 on Google for "Free Xbox Live Points". When creating these sites, I used WordPress or Drupal as the software. I don't update these sites anymore, but I wish to build a website in the future that I can build a business around. I also have interest in apps because of the rapid growth in that industry.

  12. I use my phone mainly to communicate with my family and friends. I like to talk on the phone if what I need to discuss is involved, but otherwise I text everyone. I also use my phone to check my email and occasionally play a game of solitaire. Some people utilize their phone as their primary computing device, but I still heavily rely on my laptop.

The only apps I would say that I am addicted to are my email application, my text messaging application, and my Instagram app. As I mentioned previously, I use my laptop frequently. When I am using my laptop you can find me browsing Reddit, news sites, and finding websites that help teach programming concepts. When I am not on my computer at home I mainly use my Apple TV to watch whatever series I am binge watching, which is currently is The West Wing.

I do not subscribe to anyone on YouTube, but I browse news clips and educational videos. I also do not make any YouTube videos. If I were to subscribe to any, it would largely consist of National Geographic editors, computer science instructors, and puppy videos. I have such a soft spot for the puppy videos! The reason I would follow these "Youtubers" is because I am very interested in what is happening all around the world, I have a passion for learning, and because I want a dog one day.

I do not currently have my own website, but I do manage my fraternities' website, www.akpsiaz.com. The website is Drupal based and by researching on my own, I have been able to customize the site for our purposes. I have aspirations to learn mobile application development, but currently I am focusing my studies on JavaScript development. Code Academy has been a phenomenal resource for learning web development. Eventually I would like to start my own consulting practice focusing in healthcare information security.

    1. I love puppies too! One day when I get a dog, my life will be complete. On to more serious things, what's your driving in learning JavaScript? I tried doing some lessons for html and JavaScript on Code Academy a while ago but it was difficult for me to motivate myself to continue because I wasn't actually creating something. So I was wondering, while you are learning JavaScript, how are you applying the things you are learning, besides managing your fraternities' website? What other sources are you using to learn JavaScript?

  13. When I am on my phone I am mostly texting or browsing social media websites like Instagram, Snapchat. etc. I also use my phone a lot for taking photos as I do not even own a camera anymore. Most of my family is not on social media so I send them pictures to keep them updated on what I am doing. I also use my phone a lot for the Maps app. I am not from Arizona so I use that almost every time I go out. I also use my phone to play music when I am in my car.

Currently I am "addicted" to Sleep Cycle, BuzzFeed, and the Nike Running app along with social media websites. The Sleep Cycle app I only use at night but it is a great way to track how many hours of sleep you are getting every night. Most of the others are used to pass the time if I am waiting for people etc.

When I am on my laptop I am typically doing school work. I use it to take notes, check updates, etc. I will also watch Netflix on my laptop when I am in my bedroom. When I am at home I also use my iPad a lot to read. I am not a TV watcher so my laptop and iPad are the main forms of technology I use.

I do not currently have almost any involvement in Youtube, Vine or other video based websites. I also do not have my own website or apps. I will gradate in May with my MIS degree, but am going back to Nursing schools with hopes to work as Nurse for a while and then move into management. If that happens, app development may be important then, but I do not see it in my near future.

  14. When I’m on the phone I text people (family, roommates, classmates, etc), look at recent posts on facebook and instagram, check my bank account, and play trivia crack against friends. I wouldn’t say that I am addicted to trivia crack but it is the game I play most often. On Instagram the only person I follow that has over a million followers is “YogaGirl”. I like her posts because they are inspirational.

When I’m on my laptop I am doing work for classes, looking at recent posts on facebook, checking blackboard, email and D2L, or watching Netflix. I usually hook my laptop up to my TV at home so I can watch Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Games of Thonres, and House of Cards on a big screen :-)

  16. When I am on my phone, I primarily use my phone to talk or text with my family, friends, and my colleagues from my internship. In addition, I do use my phone for other purposes such as reviewing emails and notifications that I may receive from BlackBoard. I utilize certain applications such as Facebook and LINE to keep in touch with my relatives and friends who reside in Japan.

I would say I am addicted to certain apps, particularly Facebook, LINE, and Twitter. Not many are familiar with the application of LINE, but it is essentially a messaging application where you can send texts(including the ability to send pictures and videos), receive phone calls, and place video calls for free, as long as you have data connection. This app is really convenient for me to keep base with my friends and relatives that I have that are overseas. Similarly, I use Facebook to connect with friends that live in different locations and see what is going on with their life. Lastly, I use Twitter primarily to keep up with current events. When watching the Social Media Revolution YouTube video, there was a statistic that really stood out to me. It was something along the lines of how New Yorkers received tweets about an east coast earthquake 30 seconds before they felt it. Just recently, there was a bombing that had occurred at the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP. There was a top trend that had occurred addressing this news topic. Had I not seen this on Twitter, I probably would not have known that the bombing took place as this was topic was not broadcasted on any of the major news channels the day that the incident happened. There were many people on Twitter who shared their deep concern about how something horrendous as a bombing goes unnoticed on major news networks for a day, but is trending worldwide on a social media website. It just goes to show how things have changed over the years.

When I am using my laptop, I spend my time using it mostly for school related tasks, such as typing up a report, researching, and checking email and BlackBoard. I do use my laptop for leisure as well such as streaming on Netflix, Skyping, and also playing online strategy games.
Other technology that I have at home are tablets, television sets, the Wii, and my iPod. However, I do not use the tablets or television sets very much as those are used primarily by my parents and younger sister. I don’t use my iPod and the Wii as much as I did in the past, but on occasion I will use them; my iPod to listen to music and the Wii to do some exercise with Wii Fit.

I do not subscribe to anyone on YouTube or Vine.

I currently do not have a website of my own. I do not own my own company nor have I built my own application.

  17. Just as a matter of note, I was trying to envision myself on the phone all day, and I suppose that doesn't really happen for me. Though, that may be due to the fact that my phone is antiquated in that it does not support most apps or otherwise seeing that it is just a flip phone.

There are a series of apps that I use pretty frequently on my Nexus 7 tablet on the other hand. Most often I find myself reading via Kindle or watching via Netflix (those are givens), but outside of that I spend a significant amount of time drawing via an app called "Auto Sketch" - which is primarily used for architectural drawings. I don't use it for that but I happen to like a lot of the features it provides if you like to go a little more in depth with your digital art at little to no cost.

On my laptop, honestly I am usually invested in some form of RPG, MMORPG, or Strategy/Simulation game. Though as of recently I have been spending a lot of time on Google Drive with some friends creating some fictional historic background for a story that we are thinking of writing together. It has been pretty fun!

As I have already mentioned, my primary tech use at home basically consists of a LOT of computer use, some tablet use, and the occasional evening watching things on chrome cast (but on a technicality I need to use my computer or tablet for that anyway.).

I have previously subscribed to "DM Scotty" who posts about tabletop crafting which I was into for a while. Nothing new since then and I do not think that he has over a million followers, although I am certain that there are some other ones I have watched that do get over a million followers.

Sadly, I do not have my own website or app, though i have been VERY interested in setting one up. In recent months my brother and I have been working in tandem on a small computer game/ app in Java using a synchronized server so that we could be working on the same project. The idea was that when we got it to a more playable state (with less bugs) we would launch it via a website seeing as we had programmed it to be a client server based model anyhow, and users would be able to download the free client from our webpage.

  18. My main use of my phone is for texting, checking social media, and reading emails. I like to think that I don't text as much as many other people in my generation, but I am always aware of my phone and the number of messages I do have. I only have long, drawn out texting conversations with a few people; that being said, I mostly text when I need a piece of information from somebody, such as a homework assignment or directions. More often than not, I use my phone to check social media, especially instagram and facebook. It's just far too easy to look at all the pictures and statuses mindlessly when my mind starts to wander. In all honestly, I am not even very active on social media, but it does give my something to look at when I have nothing else to do. Lastly, I am constantly sending and receiving emails for my work and school, so I spend a lot of my time checking my inbox on my phone. I like to give quick email responses, so I will often times type a response out on my phone within minutes of receiving an email.

The only apps I would consider myself "addicted" to are Instagram and the New York Times app. I always check Instagram just to mindlessly look at pictures, especially if I have time to kill. I think it's a much easier way to keep up to date on people's lives than Facebook, since the pictures are easily digestible. I also constantly check my New York Times app for the latest news, since I love to read and keep current on any new developments in the world.

When I am on my laptop, I am usually doing one of two things: homework or Netflix. Being an MIS major, almost all of my work has to be done exclusively on my laptop, whether it be programming a database or simple using Excel. I rarely use pencil or paper anymore, simply because I am unable to do the work required of me with those tools alone. All my classes also have online components, to I have to regularly check Blackboard and D2L in order to make sure that I'm up to date on all of my assignments. When I'm not doing homework, I'm usually watching a movie or show on Netflix. I don't own a television, so Netflix is the only form of entertainment that I have available in my house. It's also easy to put Netflix on in the background while I do chores around my house, or eat meals.

I do not use any other technology at home rather than my cell phone and my laptop. I already feel like I'm plugged in all of the time on these two devices, so I try to limit the amount of technology in my home as much as possible.

I don't subscribe to anyone on YouTube or Vine. I will use YouTube to occasionally look up videos, but for the most part I don't use it very much.

I do not have my own website, app, or development. As of right now, I do not have a huge interest in developing my own system, but I am very interested to learn more about it!

  19. When I’m on my phone all day I generally am doing a multitude of things. First, I like to check my social media subscriptions for new posts, such as Facebook, Instagram, and snapchat. I also regularly check my email and texts/calls for new messages. When I have more free time I like to check news apps like CNN, Engadget, etc for information about new and innovative technology and general world news.

I am addicted to the general apps that are factory installed on my phone such as the “messaging” app, “email” app, “safari” app. The only game I play often on my phone would be “Heroes” which is a Call of Duty strategy game.

When I’m on my laptop I spend a majority of my time doing research on various technological inventions, which could range from new Intel Processors to smartphone technology. I also research almost every product I buy before purchasing.

I use my Apple TV frequently which syncs my computer to my television so that I can mirror the images on my computer to my TV. The Apple TV comes in handy when I want to watch television without paying for a cable subscription.

I subscribe to Vice on YouTube which provides recent documentaries to millions of people. I like Vice because it is very informative about issues I never thought existed, such as the political system in North Korea, or how certain tribes thrive in remote areas of Africa.

I do not own my own website nor my own company however I would like to open a restaurant when I have the capital to do so. Additionally, I have helped other make websites and I work for a start-up company.

  20. When I am on my phone all day, I do variety of different activities on the device. I use the basic functions of the phone to call and texts my friends and family but for the most part I am using downloaded apps. One of my favorite apps is Instagram because I get to see different photos from around the world. On this app I follow famous photographers from different genres of photography. I follow some wildlife and animal photographers as well as sports photographers. The other app I use is Netflix. I stream a video from my phone to my TV using Chrome Cast. Other than that, I use other applications very little in comparison.

I would say that the one app that I am addicted to is Snapchat. This is a great app because it allows me to keep up with my friends and send the funny pictures throughout the day. I can also keep up with live Snapchat feeds from popular events throughout the world. For example, during the Fifa World Cup this summer I was able to keep up with the live feed that the fans posted onto Snapchat. I was able to see the players close up after games as fans recorded them.

I keep my laptop mainly for school. I check email, blackboard and D2L on my computer. I listen to music all the time using Spotify on my laptop while doing homework. It keeps me going while I am doing homework. I usually listen to one to the different playlists depending on what my mood is or what I need to get done at the time.

I wouldn’t say that I use more technology than what I have already written. Once in a while I will also use my laptop to stream sports but that is about it. I don’t go on YouTube that often but I do follow some famous people on Instagram. These people are mostly photographers but I also follow professional athletes. I don’t have my own website at the moment but from time to time I help my friend with his website. I mostly give my opinion and test it but I would not like to run my own.

  21. I can honestly say that I am "addicted" to my phone. My favorite apps are Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. When I have free time, I check these apps periodically throughout the day to keep myself updated on news (Twitter) or anything happening around campus. I also love using workout apps that track the amount of miles I run. Finding this app has been a lifesaver because I can run around the neighborhood and this app can track how fast and how long I ran.

When I'm on my laptop, I'm either on Netflix (if I do not have schoolwork) or looking through emails or Blackboard. Most of my schoolwork (if not all of it) is done on my laptop so it is extremely valuable to me.

On Youtube, I'm subscribed to BigDawsTV. He posts pranks but once in a while posts social experiments in a college setting. They're interesting to watch. This video was filmed at the UofA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUQ7D1F3EyE

  22. I would say I use my phone for the most part to communicate with friends and family through texting and phone calls. I definitely prefer texting over phone calls just because I am so used to this form of communication unless just making a quick phone would be easier than typing everything out. A close second behind communication for me would probably be my use of social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. I like to keep up with my friends and family on there as well as other interests on social media such as sports pages and viral videos pages. Communication and social media are what I spend the majority of my time doing when I am on my phone but I also enjoy games(8 Ball Pool), using my phone for school/work related activities and a news hub.

The app that I am closest to being addicted to is Netflix. This is the app I use the most other than the normal text messaging and internet browser apps. I prefer Netflix on my laptop as opposed to the phone but I still use the phone app a decent amount.

As mentioned with my most addicting apps on my phone, I enjoy watching Netflix a lot on my laptop. Aside from this, when I am on my laptop I am usually checking emails, doing school work, on social networks or just aimlessly internet browsing. I also enjoy the site Stumbleupon which lets you choose an interest such as technology, humor, music etc., and it will keep giving new web pages on the topic. This is an easy site to spend a lot of time just browsing through webpages on any topic.

One piece of technology I use at home is a TV streaming device called Chromecast. It is an HDMI plug in that connects to the TV and allows anyone to cast several different apps from a phone, tablet or laptop onto the television. So, instead of watching a youtube video or a Netflix show on a small screen, I am able to mirror it onto a normal sized TV screen.

Currently I do not have any subscriptions on youtube. I mainly use site to just listen to all kinds of music and discover new music.

I have not made my own website or built an app but I would like to one day take the time to learn how to construct an app and come up with one of those ideas that makes people say "I should've thought of that."

  23. Actually, I usually check the messages from friends and read the news through social media Apps. Sometimes, I just want to light my phone up for nothing.

Of course, I am addicted to several apps, such as wechat(online chatting app) and weibo(Chinese twitter). I use those apps to share my experience and everyday motion.

When I am using my laptop, most of the time was watching videos. I don’t have TV at home. Thus, I watch popular drama and movies online.

I also have an iPad which is used for listening to music, as well as watching videos.

I don’t subscribe anyone on YouTube, but I do subscribe a TV Channel on Chinese video website named YOUKU. This TV Channel always post popular Chinese dramas and variety shows.

I have a personal website with my friend. It’s just for publish the food I cooked. I love cooking, so I always take pictures of my homemade food, and then publish them online.

  24. Right when I wake up, I browse Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. I even set my alarm 20 minutes early so I can allow time for this browsing in the morning. I would say I am addicted to Instagram.

When I am on my laptop, I spend the majority of my time on Blackboard, Facebook, or Gmail. I also online shop a lot. I don't really use any other technology at my home except my computer and iPhone.

I subscribe to Jimmy Tatro on youtube. He is an Arizona Alumni who posts funny videos every monday and is known all over the country by college kids. I think he may have over 1 million followers. I love that his videos are so funny and are about real life issues college kids may go through.

  25. I use my phone mostly for texting, calling and reading emails. In addition, the apps I used are mostly snapchat, facebook and usbank. I wouldn't say I’m really addicted to any apps. If my laptop isn't available I sometimes use my phone for music and watching tv shows/movies through Netflix and Hulu.
I use my laptop mostly for homework, studying and watching Netflix and Hulu.

I don’t have my own website or company or app. I also don’t subscribe to anyone on youtube/vine or on any other app/website.

  26. When you're on the phone all day, what are doing? It obviously doesn't have to be one thing, and it doesn't have to be all play (but it could be).
When on the phone throughout the day, I tend to check emails, browse every social media to keep up on my friends’ lives, my families’ lives and daily news, text with my friends.
Would you say you're "addicted" to certain apps? Which ones do you play all the time now.
If I am not in exam week or traveling, I would keep browsing every social media all day.
When you are on your laptop, what do spend most of your time doing?
Check emails, do homework and watch movies and talk show
My technology live is a little boring, but the real live is more interesting. I tend to spend time talking with my friends and parents.
What about other technology use at home?
I don’t use other technology at home and subscribe anyone on YouTube, Vine. I don’t have my own website, own company, either.

  27. When I use my phone it's usually for texting. I rarely use it to make calls. When I'm not using it to text I will quickly check email and play on a couple app games. I wouldn't say that I'm not addicted to any particular app. I do check Facebook and twitter more than any other though. When I'm on my laptop I'm usually surfing the web or doing homework. I do watch Netflix but I watch it on my Xbox since it plays on a larger screen (TV). Majority of the technology I use is either my phone, laptop, or Xbox One. I use YouTube a lot and subscribed to around 30 people. About half have over a million subscribers and some have over five million. I use YouTube usually for entrainment and how-to videos. In high school I created my father's company's website.

  28. My relationship with technology started long time ago with the first sonar picture my mom’s doctor took for me and it lasted until now. Every morning when I wake up, I wash my face and I use my electronic brush with a timer to show the recommended time to spend on brushing (#1 electronic brush with timer). Then, I iron my clothes and open my refrigerator to make my breakfast using either stove, oven, or microwave. (#2 iron, #3 refrigerator, #4 stove, oven, or microwave). In short, technologies are everywhere and it became more essential in our lives nowadays than ever.
Personally, I have never been in a good relationship with social media like Facebook, twitter, or what have you. I experienced the disadvantage of not following this social media revolution especially since social media became the center of news, development, and technologies. Although I was not a twitter or Facebook person ever, I have personal account in both of them and I have tried to make myself interested in it! Finally, a new kind of social media came to life, which includes sharing photos and snaps of my life, and I am glad to say that I have active accounts in Instagram and SnapChat and that what I spent most of my phone time on. I would not consider my self an addict to any of those apps but I like to socialize through them. what's up is another app that I use to stay connected with family and friends back home. those three apps: instagram, snap chat and what's up are the most visited in my phone.

  29. For my personal use, the primary purpose of my phone is communication. The majority of time spent on my phone is used texting, calling, or messaging. Therefore the app I am most addicted to would be Facebook. Secondly, my phone is source of entertainment to me. In this context, my two favorite apps are Instagram and SnapChat.

On my laptop, my time is divided between school work, entertainment (TV, Games, News) and communication. I do have a youtube account and on occasion follow people with a mass amount of followers.

I have assisted in the creation of 3 basic websites, but would love to be more knowledgeable and experienced in this area.

  30. In regards to my time spent on my phone, I am often checking apps related to social media and my calendar. I often am checking updates on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and others. Additionally, I am often texting my friends throughout the day about plans, etc. I often check articles on my phone as well to get updates about current events.
I would say I am addicted to Facebook if I had pick an app that I utilize the most besides texting. I am always interested what my friends are doing, posting, and how they are feeling. People also tend to post interesting articles that can either be very funny, or even serious matters about current events happening in the world. I think overall, it’s an obsession with social interaction more so than the app itself as it extends to Snapchat and Instagram.
When I’m on my lap top, I spend a lot of time checking or catching up on emails from classes and professionals. I also continue my social media experience by interacting with people on Facebook, using Facebook chat as a medium. I also do a fair amount of random research about topics that I know little about. For example, if there is a topic in the news that I briefly see an article about that interests me, I will dive deeper to find more articles to gain a better understanding of the topic. This applies to sports, technology, and a variety of other topics. I also research job postings lately to try to find the best job possible following graduation.
When I’m at home, I use a variety of technology besides my lap top and phone such as an Xbox and a PS3. We currently have both in our house, and we use them for both gaming, such as Call of Duty or NBA 2k, and mainly for video streaming from places like Netflix of our favorite shows.
I don’t often subscribe to people on YouTube as much as I often just hear or see about popular videos. While I don’t follow them religiously or subscribe, Jenna Marbles is dating my friend and is one of the most viewed people on YouTube. I am quite positive that she has over a million subscribers, and they often go on funny rants about daily life experiences, etc. I also enjoy Key & Peele, and other Comedy Central actors.
While I don’t currently own a real website, I have a photography page and am hoping to pursue this further this year. Once I build a solid portfolio, I will hopefully make my own page (besides on Facebook), and hopefully gain a strong audience.

  31. My phone has become the crux of my organizational pattern after my switch to the world of smart phones three years ago. Calendar, professional email, Facebook, LinkedIn, reddit, mobile banking, dropbox, and Spotify constitute the majority of my battery life. Often times, I am using it to coordinate events and people on my calendar and gmail.
Addiction is a strong word. That being said, without my calendar and email in my pocket my life would be significantly more difficult. This past summer I challenged myself to go a week without touching my phone. Needless to say, it was a difficult time, but was surprisingly fruitful. The main thing I missed was Spotify.
Most of my time at work and in school is spent note taking and reading on a screen, so I try eliminate as much recreational laptop use as possible, rendering my laptop a glorified Netflix machine or a photoshopping device. Other than that, I use my iPad as an alarm clock, Facebook, reddit, and email tool. Mostly everything else I use at home involves some sort of technology, from my speakers to my chromecast, including a WiFI enable camera and a goPro.
I have yet to jump on the Vine train, and youtube has really gone downhill since they mandated accounts. I’m not really internet famous in any sense of the word, nor do I follow any people who are. Last summer I did CGI effects for Mark Walberg’s TV show, so that could be seen as a connection.
I would love to start my own restaurant or excursion company, but I do have experience with web development (http://www.dualityfilmworks.com/splash) and internal database development. I think my passion for IT comes in with the idea of setting together a framework of interworking pieces; putting up an ongoing show more or less. If I were to have investors fund me for anything, it would be for a restaurant of some sort or possibly for graphic design. My experience is all over the place, from Healthcare IT to film to logistics to virtualization to general tech support, but I have yet to find a field that really excites me.

  32. When I'm on my phone I'm mainly either texting friends, reading articles, or on social media. I like to read sports articles on my favorite teams as well as news articles on topics I'm interested in. Apart from this I oftentimes play games on my phone such as: Subway Surfer, Deer Hunter, Smash Hit, and Lep's World. In terms of social media I use Facebook, spapchat, and instagram.

I wouldn't say that I'm addicted to any apps but there are definitely certain apps that I use more that others. The apps that I use most frequently are: instagram, snapchat, facebook, and yahoo digest.

When I am on my laptop I spend most of my time surfing the web or reading news stories on yahoo. I also like to watch tv shows, movies, and listen to music.

Other technology that I use at home besides my phone and computer is my Wii and my gameboy. I don't often play video games but I do like to occasionally play video games at home.

I'm not a big subscriber of either Vine or Youtube. I don't have a Vine account, but I subscribe to Kevin Hart, fouseytube, and Funimation on youtube. Both Kevin Hart and Funimation have over 1,000,000 followers and I follow them because Kevin Hart is funny and Funimation shows Dragon Ball Z tv shows and movies. I follow FouseyTube because he is a prankster and his videos are funny.

No I don't have my own website or app, but I am very interested in this class and want to learn as much as possible.

  34. Although I’m not a big texter (usually just group messages when planning something with friends, or the quick text if I need to ask/tell somebody something), I do use my phone a lot for a variety of other reasons. I like to stay up to date on social media, emails, sports, and current events through the use of many apps. I also depend on my phone for music, getting to and from places, and taking pictures.

I wouldn’t say I’m “addicted” to any apps, but the ones I use the most are Facebook and Instagram for social media, ESPN and Fox News for getting notifications about big games and events that are happening, and Spotify for listening to music. The one app I would not want to be without is definitely my Maps app.

When I am on my computer, I am probably doing homework, watching Netfix, browsing Pinterest, playing music or any combination of the four.

I don’t really use any other technologies at home nor do I subscribe to anyone on Youtube. I mostly use Youtube when I want to look up a funny video. I also don’t have a website, app, or interest in developing one.

  35. On my phone I am mostly checking social media apps, with the main three being Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Occasionally I will browse reddit, do some texting, check my emails, and make some phone calls.

I am addicted to the three aforementioned apps, as those are the ones I use constantly throughout the day.

On my laptop, I am either doing schoolwork on Blackboard or D2L, managing emails, on reddit, or listening to music.

At home, I only use my phone/computer to play music or my Xbox 360 to play video games or watch Netflix.

I do not subscribe to anybody on YouTube or Vine. The only social website I use that involves subscriptions is reddit, and some examples of subreddits I subscribe to include: baseball, programming, software, trivia, and web_design.

I have built two websites. The first (actually currently run by Jacob Zollinger) is for our professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi. The second one is the redesign of the Eller IT department’s website. I will be doing software engineering full-time at American Express starting in August.

  36. While using my phone, I’m typically texting, checking emails, or using apps such as Facebook, Snapchat, or Instagram. I wouldn’t say I’m addicted to any apps, but there are apps that I enjoy checking more frequently than others. Instagram is something I check fairly often because I like to see the pictures posted by my friends.

The majority of the time I spend on my laptop is used to do homework and edit photos. I have found that as phones become more advanced, I rely less and less on my laptop for things. My technology use at home is limited to my phone and computer because I don’t use a television or any gaming devices.

I don’t subscribe to anyone on YouTube, but I do follow people on Vine. Some of my favorite “Viners” are Sean Sauce, Lance Billaber, Drew Phillips, and Elisabeth Jacovenko. Elisabeth and Sean have over 1 million subscribers. The individuals I have listed above all have a very sarcastic sense of humor which is why I appreciate the jokes they make.

I don’t have my own website, company, or app, but I would love to develop something on my own down the road.

  37. When I use my cellphone during the day, I am usually checking for text messages; my boss texts me all day as my girlfriend and friends do. I have no games in my cellphone, I only use it to manage my financials, communicate with other people and listen to music. After that being said, the apps I consider myself to be addicted to are IheartRadio and Whatsapp.
On my laptop I usually check my emails and sometimes plan my financials. Most of the times is on blackboard and uaccesss; these two sites are my top two visited sites.
Other technologies I use at home is my PlayStation4. I can play games, communicate with other friends and stream videos. Its definitely my favorite device.
I really don’t subscribe to YouTube because people is annoying and send unnecessary emails all the time. The only one channel I am subscribed Is Buzzfeed, where they upload trending or entertaining videos.

  39. One of the apps that I use on my phone most often is the Snapchat app. My close friends and I use it as a means to communicate with one another by sending silly photos of what we are doing. We also use Snapchats texting abilities often and instead of the actual message app offered by iPhone. Other apps that I use frequently include Mail to check my work and school emails throughout the day, Facebook and Instagram to keep connected with friends and Netflix and Pinterest to pass time.

Though I am not addicted to any apps, I do have an embarrassing dependence on my phone. While driving, I constantly use the Maps app to navigate. I also use Spotify for music throughout the day whether that is in my car as I commute or at work. The Mail app constantly refreshes on my phone as I check it periodically to keep updated for personal, work and school information. These apps make my life much easier and I rely on my phone for both emergencies and entertainment.

On my laptop, I am either working on homework or watching Netflix. Most of my internet browsing is completed on my phone as the topics occur to me. Since I do not have a tv, I use my laptop as my main source of entertainment while at my house.

The technology used at my house generally revolves around my iPhone and my laptop. At the moment, I do not have a TV; this has not proved to be as difficult as I had initially expected.

As I do not watch YouTube or Vine often, I do not have a subscription. I also do not have a website or company of any type. Creating a website would be very interesting and I could definitely see myself learning how to in the future.

  40. When I got my first cell phone, it was to be “cool,” I used the phone minimally and when I did make a call, it was for pleasure or entertainment purposes. Since that time the use of my cell phone for making calls has evolved. I have recently noticed that the majority of my time spend on the phone is wasted trying to fix something that was not done correctly. It could be me calling Sony about my computer problems, or my landlord about an unexpected charge on my rent. Of course, none of these calls are a simple five minute conversation, but rather end up being countless hours of meaningless discussion.

I wouldn’t say I’m addicted to certain apps, but my favorite apps are Instagram, Snapchat, Trivia Crack, Pandora, and NBA Game Time. I use these apps basically every day, but I don’t rely on them for my happiness. For that reason, I would think it’s fair to say that I am not addicted to them.

When I’m on my laptop, I spend most of my time doing homework or work in general. I would say that less than 15% of my time on my laptop is used for pleasure purposes (except during the fantasy football season when it’s probably more like 25%).

At home, I am surrounded by all different types of technology. Whether it be setting the house alarm from my phone, or running my TV off my computer, I’m surrounded by technology. Even the wine fridge that adjusts its temperature as necessary is an awesome piece of technology that provides comfort in my home.

I don’t subscribe to anybody on YouTube. The only time I use YouTube is to watch the occasional music video, basketball highlight or comedian such as Daniel Tosh or Gilbert Gottfried.

I don’t have my own company or website, however my dad is self-employed and I made a website for him recently. This website can be found at http://www.meeting-options.com/ . Building a website was much easier than I originally thought it would be. I wouldn’t mind doing this full time, but I would have to learn much more so that I can make it stand out a lot better than the one I made for my father.

  41. When I am using technology, I usually use the internet regardless of what device I am on. I always check my email, go on Facebook, and go on Reddit. Email lets me connect to the professional and academic worlds as I use it exclusively to network or do school work. Facebook lets me communicate with friends. I use Reddit to learn about things, connect with the world, and for entertainment. You can subscribe to subreddits about specific topics (like GeoPolitics). You can also read a compilation of news stories or just look at funny pictures.

When I am on my laptop (or any actual computer), I use Blackboard, D2L, or Google Drive. This is because they are easier to use here than on a mobile device. If I'm on my cell phone, I text people and use SnapChat as well. If I'm on my Ipad, I am normally reading ebooks or watching tv shows on youtube.

  42. I use technology from the time I get up to the time I go to sleep. In the mornings I use my phone as an alarm to wake up. Since I am not a huge morning person, I use an app on my phone that only lets me turn off the alarm by doing some sort of puzzle. I then check my Facebook, which I mostly use to read articles from pages I follow. Currently I follow the NY Times, Buzzfeed, Time, Wired, TechCrunch, MSNBC, FOX, and CNN, as well as other local news outlets to stay up to date on current events and technology related news. Then I go on Spapchat and see stories from friends. I also use Whatsapp to text friends or groups of friends. I like to go on Pinterest when I’m really bored. I occasionally use Pandora when I’m driving and the Google Maps app. I also use banking apps to check my finances at least once a week. I check my email throughout the day and use Siri to remind me to do stuff. I use my calendar religiously and could not live without it. As for games, I have phases where I’m really into one app and then other times when I don’t play games at all. In the past, I have enjoyed playing the games 2048, AA, Sudoku, FreeCell, Temple Run, Candy Crush etc.

I only use my laptop for school related stuff that requires typing up documents. Since I am taking an online class, I guess I will be using it more frequently.

I am in love with my Smart TV, which I only use for Netflix. I don’t remember the last time I watched actual television with commercials and all that. When I have a lot of free time, I use my Kindle to read some guilty pleasure fiction material. I only really go on Youtube when I want to look up something, like how-to’s, cooking recipes, or even a compilation of funny videos.

I do have my own website that I made from scratch using HTML coding. I only use it to practice my coding skills, but have not kept it up to date.

  43. When I am using my phone I am usually reading and responding to email or texts, browsing the web, using social media apps, or reading the news. I try to limit how much I use my phone and certain apps, like Snapchat and Instagram, because I feel like they distract you from things going on around you.

I wouldn't say I am addicted to certain apps but I do find myself on them more than I would like. In particular, I would say Instagram is the app that I spend my most time on.
When I am on my laptop I almost am always doing homework or emails. I use my phone or tablet for all of my quick tasks, such as looking things up on the internet or sending a quick email, but my laptop is what I use for most of the more in-depth research and paper writing.

I also have a Surface Pro tablet/laptop that I use as my main laptop as well as a tablet. I find myself using my Surface quite a lot because it is very versatile and easy to transport.

I have worked on building a website and an app but I do not have one that I have solely worked on myself or one that I own entirely. However, I would like to one day build an app and it is something I could see myself pursuing as a career or an investment opportunity.

I would definitely say that I'm addicted to instagram. It allows me to visually keep up with all my friends and family.

I usually use my laptop for school purposes. However, I do find myself getting distracted with social media at times while I'm on the computer.

I only use my smart phone and my 2 laptops.

I only have an instagram and a facebook. On instagram, I only follow people I know and would like to keep up with. On facebook, I use it more for advertisement and networking purposes for my job.

No, I do not have a website or an app.

  45. I typically use my phone as an outlet for communication. I am usually texting and calling my friends and family, and checking my emails to stay up to date with my life. I play the occasional game on my phone, but for the most part, I use it to text.

I wouldn't say that I'm addicted to any apps. When I'm bored, I find myself checking Instagram and facebook and of course checking my Snapchat stories. Yesterday, I was actually exposed to the game Trivia Crack, and I think the term crack may be appropriate when discussing this game. Hopefully this doesn't become an actual addiction.

I typically use my laptop for school work and checking emails. In addition, when I'm not doing school work, I'm usually on my laptop online shopping, watching netflix, or wasting my time on Facebook.

Other than my laptop and my phone, the only other technology I really use at home is the TV. I don't subscribe to any YouTube channels, and I also don't have my own website.

  46. When I am on the phone, I use Instagram, group text messages, emails, Snapchat and a little bit of Pinterest. Once in a while, I use FaceTime or Skype to talk to friends. I like to use Spotify and Pandora to listen to music.

Certain apps that I love and continuously use are Snapchat and WhatsApp (a text messaging app). This app allows me to catch up with friends around the world who do not necessarily live in the United States. If I have time to play a game, Temple Run 2 is my ultimate favorite!

When I am on my laptop, I spend most of the time doing academic stuff. I normally check my email, complete assignments, and read news articles or a book. I also listen to music and use Netflix to watch a television episode.

I love to use YouTube and watch cover versions or cover songs from original music artists. My top subscribers are Michael Bublé and John Mayer because they are my favorite musicians and composers.

I do not own a website. I would love to create one soon!

  47. My various web experiences are mostly on my laptop and iPhone. Whenever I use my laptop, I am usually on my email. I also use my laptop to research different things for school and personal use. For example, when I am online shopping, I research the best brands and features of the different types of the product. Then, I check the prices at different online locations for that one product.

I typically use my phone to iMessage and text people. I also use my phone to check my email. My freshman year in college, I had a smart phone that was slow and, overall, wasn’t all that impressive. When I upgraded the iPhone, I was really happy, because I could then receive emails immediately. That’s one of the main reasons I love my iPhone, because I receive emails immediately. Of course, I also use my iPhone for entertainment. I typically skim Facebook, watch Snapchats, and surf Pinterest. I use my phone to pay for my Starbucks drink using the Starbucks app too. I also use my phone for online banking and credit cards. One of the main uses of my phone is for a running app to measure the distance and play my music. I love my phone, because I am constantly listening to music on my iPhone whether it be iTunes or Pandora. I love listening to music on my phone.

However, I also use my iPad and my roommate’s XBOX. I mainly use the iPad and XBOX for entertainment purposes. I use my iPad for my Kindle app to read books for recreation, and watch Netflix. I also use my iPad to Pinterest. I use the XBOX to watch Netflix, watch movies and shoes on XBOX, and play video games such as Call of Duty. We also use the new Nintendo Wii to play Mario Kart and watch Netflix as well.

  48. When I’m on the phone all day, I usually play some games, and browse the Weibo, which is the Chinese version Twitter. Moreover, chatting with my friends through some apps also takes a part of my day. Certainly I am “addicted” to some apps. Weibo is one of it. Others are some games. These days I am playing the Candy Crush, which is very famous on Facebook. When I am on my laptop, I’d like to watch some TV dramas on Weekends. During the weekdays, doing the homework is the most important thing I should do on the laptop. When I’m doing homework, I will play some music. I rarely watch YouTube, since I’m Chinese. However, I still subscribe a Channel called skyanime365, who put Japanese animation. Because I like animations, so I subscribed this guy. I don’t have my own website and company; but I am interested in establish my own company in the future. I really like animals, so I want to have a pet store in China.

  49. When I am on my phone during the day I am either texting, checking email, reading news articles, or on social media. I use Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram for social media. I actually have an app that I use to track how much time I spend on my phone called Moment. This app can tell you how many times you have picked up your phone throughout the day and for how long, and gives you a running total of the number of minutes you have been on your phone.

I would not say I'm addicted to any apps, but I do enjoy Instagram the most. I use Instagram mostly to follow different travelers and travel pages.

When I am on my laptop I am primarily doing school work, browsing the internet, or watching Netflix. I use my cell phone much more than my laptop.

I don't have an app, but I want to eventually create one. I am learning the coding through online sites. I do not use Youtube very often.

  50. I am usually talking on the phone when I am driving. I just don't like to listen to the radio in my car so it seems best to call someone to talk until I get to my destination. I text throughout my day to friends/family, and I use multiple apps that help make my life so much easier! I think I go through phases when it comes to how much time I spend on my phone and which apps I use the most throughout my day. Since I got a smartphone I tend to use snapchat the most, and today the just came out with the new feature "Discover"! Check it out, pretty awesome. When I am on my laptop, I spend most of my time either reading various articles from websites like BusinessInsider or TechCrunch. I also have been trying to pick up new technical skills so I watch a lot of videos on Lynda.com for practice. I don't use that much technology at home other than my computer and my phone nor do I follow people on Vine/YouTube. I was a web developer intern and have made some cool websites, but I do not have my own. I want to make an online portfolio before I graduate!

  52. One of the most important things that I do while I am on the phone during the day would have to be that I am constantly checking my email account. I have to be on top of things because my work requires it. I work for Hershey and there are constant updates and many store managers that I have to speak with. I am also multitasking because I am also logged on to Facebook and Instagram.
I think that the app that I would be addicted to would probably have to be snapchat.
When I am using my laptop I am mostly using it to check out videos on you tube. I like to watch soccer games and that is one f the ways that I stay updated.
At home I use my Ipad.
I don't follow anyone on you tube I just like to watch a variety of things and to be honest I don't pay any attention to that.
I created a website in MIS 311 but it has been so long that I don't remember how or why I created it. I would like to create another one this semester

  55. An excellent example of a firm that's implementing a crowd sourcing and collective action business model is Dell. Currently, they have two programs that are aimed at promoting social entrepreneurs and creative/innovative solutions to complex issues facing mankind. Through the platforms of technology and open innovation, students and non-students can submit ideas or models that are at any stage of development. Collectively, individuals can offer advice, impart wisdom regarding a solution or situation, and essentially provide the nudge needed for an idea to move forward.

Dell’s Social Innovation Challenge rewards innovative ideas/solutions with seed money and has awarded over $800,000 since 2007. Some of the issues and projects that are being undertaken includes: Solar Conduction Dryers, recycling rubber tires to construct tennis shoes, and the creation of solar power food dehydrators. Seemingly, Dell has recognized the need for collective creativity, and they’re “putting their money where their mouth is”. More information can be found at DellChallenge.org. Channel you inner entrepreneur and check out their website.

  56. On my phone I usually am texting with other friends. I am also mainly using four other apps that include Facebook, Whatsapp and Snapchatt. I also use my phone as my planner where I note important deadlines, assignments, meetings, etc. I am also checking my e-mail as I recieve notifications. When I am exercising or simply walking I like to listen to music either Pandora or Itunes.

I can say that Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Snapchatt are the apps I am addicted to as they are the ones I mainly use. On my laptop I am either doing homework or watching netflix. Most of the time I am on blackboard or on my catmail. I am always usually only using my phone and laptop at home. At time I use my televisión and connect to netflix. I do not really subscribe to anyone on youtube or vine. I usually just go on youtube to view vevo music videos or view instructions on how to do something like cooking. I do not own a website although I would love to créate one which would also help me practice my coding skills.

  58. When you're on the phone all day, what are doing? It obviously doesn't have to be one thing, and it doesn't have to be all play (but it could be).

Mostly on Instagram, texting and occasionally on Facebook.

Would you say you're "addicted" to certain apps? Which ones do you play all the time now.

I would say that Instagram is my favorite app because I follow mostly fitness blogs so it helps me stay motivated to try and live a healthy lifestyle.

When you are on your laptop, what do spend most of your time doing?

I spend most of my time studying, doing homework and checking my email.

What about other technology use at home?

I mostly just use my laptop and computer.

Who do you subscribe to on YouTube, Vine, etc.? Do any of the people you follow have over a million subscribers? Who are they? What do you like about them?

I don't really go on YouTube, but I have a few people that I've subscribed to with more than a million followers, like Jenna Marbles. I follow more people on Instagram though because I'm alwasy trying to find new ways to incorporate healthy things into my day to day activities.

Do you have your own website, own company, built your own app, want to do this full time (with investors of course)?

I don't have my own website, but if I ever start my own accounting business, I will have no problem and be excited to launch my own site.
